Book Of The Month
The Yoga Sutras are considered one of the most important texts for anyone interested in the study of Yoga. Traditionally attributed to Patañjali (c. 2nd century BCE–4th century CE), the Sutras systematize the theory and practice of classical Yoga. Composed of 195 sūtras, the Sutras outline a framework for understanding consciousness, suffering, and liberation (kaivalya). The Sutras present an analysis of mental fluctuations (citta-vṛtti) and introduce the eightfold path (aṣṭāṅga yoga) as a disciplined method for cultivating ethical conduct, meditative stability, and discernment (viveka). My personal favorite translation is Sri Swami Satchidananda’s, though there are many other excellent translations available. Read, re-read, and then read again!
