Join us for a special event Thursday, December 4 at 6 p.m. as we discuss the teachings of the The Avadhoota Gita ("song of the free soul") and pay homage to the sage Dattatreya with a special Puja on his festival day. (And also celebrate Ravenna’s birthday, which happens to be the same day!)
Dattreya is recognized as the Adiyogi. The embodiment of the Trumurti…Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. He symbolizes self-realization and unity. The philosophy of Dattatreya is associated with Advaita Vedanta and the path of the Avadhuta, which emphasizes self-realization and freedom from worldly attachments. His teachings suggest that a liberated soul is not bound by any particular lifestyle, appearance, or religion.
Dattatreya is usually depicted with four dogs by his side, representing the four vedas, a cow behind him representing Lord Vishnu, a trident in his hand representing Lord Shiva and three heads representing Lord Brahma.
This is a free, family-friendly gathering, so feel free to bring the kiddos! We’ll also be having a potluck after the Puja to celebrate Ravenna’s birthday. Please RSVP by Dec 1st so we know how many people to expect.
