The Koshas are the five layers of our being, acting as "sheaths" or "veils" that cover our true Self. They represent different aspects of our physical, energetic, mental, intellectual, and blissful nature. By understanding and working with these Koshas, we can move towards greater self-awareness and a deeper connection with the true Self.
The 5 Koshas
1. Annamaya Kosha (Physical Sheath): This is the otter most layer. Practices like Asana and Other Types of Movement, Diet, Hydration all impact this Kosha.
2. Pranamaya Kosha (Energetic Sheath): This layer is the Subtle Body layer. Connecting to vital energy/prana. through Pranayama, Time In Nature, and Somatic Movement all positively effect this Kosha.
3. Manomaya Kosha (Mental/Emotional Sheath): The realm of the mind, where perceptions and stories are formed. This Kosah is impacted by Meditation, Journaling, Mudra and Mantra.
4. Vijnanamaya Kosha (Wisdom/Intellectual Sheath):
This layer represents the seat of wisdom and the ability to make conscious choices. Self Reflection, Therapy, Study of Sacred Texts influence this Kosha.
5. Anandamaya Kosha (Bliss/Spiritual Sheath): This is the innermost and subtlest layer, representing pure joy, bliss, and connection to the divine. Daily Sadhana, Seva (Selfless Service), Yoga Nidra, and Kirtan provide a path to this Kosah.
